Ko wai mātou?
About Mini Miro
Kupu Māori: Miro - (noun) thread, strand, twisted cord, fibre, cotton.
He uri tēnei nō Ngāti Porou - I grew up in Tokomaru Bay on the beautiful East Coast, and are now based in Wellington.
Mini Miro began in 2019 while I was hapū with our pōtiki. At the time, there were very few Māori designed kākahu available for pēpi and tamariki, so I started designing my own. What began as pieces for my pēpi quickly grew into Mini Miro, a way to encourage the use of te reo Māori and to celebrate and express te ao Māori in everyday life.
Nearly six years on, it has been beautiful to see this space grow. As Mini Miro has grown, so have my tamariki and my creativity. Moving forward, Mini Miro is evolving into a space where ideas can flow more freely, expanding beyond baby clothing while still holding strong to our kaupapa and values.
A big goal for us is working towards creating more of our products here in Aotearoa. Producing locally allows us to be intentional about our environmental impact, and accessibility, while giving us the freedom to create in small, meaningful batches.
Our pakihi will continue to evolve as we do, and we thank you all for joining us on this journey.
